Harsh weather continues to slow down harvest

Reported snow in Lloydminster has slowed down harvest. Saskatchewan Agriculture says anywhere from one to six inches of snow has severely lodged crops in the area last week.

17 per cent of the crop is in the bin for the Northwestern Saskatchewan, which includes the Lloydminster area. That is behind the five year average of 38 per cent for this time of year. Meanwhile, 50 per cent of the crop has been swathed or is ready to straight combine.

Rainfall was also reported in the region with North Battleford receiving 30 millimetres and Frenchman Butte area reporting the most rain in the province at 71 millimetres. At this time, 44 per cent of pastures are rated in good condition, 30 per cent in fair condition and 17 per cent in poor condition.

Sask. Agriculture says crop damage for the past week was mainly due to cool and wet weather. Lodging, bleaching and staining are causing quality losses and geese are starting to move into mature crops.
