Chair of LRHF enters UCP nomination contest

The current Chair of the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation Darrel Howell has joined the nomination race for United Conservative Party. Howell will join Danny Hozack and Garth Rowswell in seeking a nomination for the Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright constituency.

Howell says his first focus will be getting the economy back on track.

“I’ve become very concerned about the state of the economy and the fact that a lot of oil companies, in particular, are not investing in the province of Alberta at present or only investing at a minimal level.”

He says if elected he will eliminate the carbon tax, review the farm safety bill and help with the high cost of health care in the province.

Howell has recently completed his term as Chair, of the Board of Governors of Lakeland College. He says his time at Lakeland gave him a window into the agriculture industry, as well as the experience working for the whole region, not just Lloydminster.

“I think one of the great things about Lakeland is, as a board we really learned how to do what was right for the whole college in the whole region and I think I can bring that experience to the constituency as well.”

Howell has a background in the oil industry, previously working as the first manager of the Huski Upgrader.

His team will be holding meet and greats in various communities over the next month to share Howell’s platform with residents. Stops include the Golf and Curling Centre on September 25, Vermilion Senior Citizens Centre on September 26 and Kitscoty Community Hall on October 1.
