A program to help people affected by the Humboldt Bronco’s tragedy has raised $1.4 million. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Assistance Program saw Lloydminster and District Co-op donate $10,000 in April and since then donations have grown.
The program was created right after the bus crash to support the mental health of the Humboldt players, families, coaches and volunteers. Donations from Co-op have totalled over $768,000. Federated Co-operatives Limited CEO Scott Banda said in a statement that through the tragedy they’ve witnessed people come together.
“Co-op has always rallied to support our communities, which is why we partnered with the SJHL on a program that will help people heal across the league and eventually across the Junior A hockey community across Canada.”
The program is currently seeking charitable status and after launching five months ago has made progress with mental health supports by partnering with the Canadian Red Cross and Homewood Health.
