Man from Lloydminster arrested for injuring RCMP officer

A 37-year-old man from Lloydminster has been arrested after injuring an RCMP officer on Monday morning. Police say the man was pulled over by an officer on Highway 40 where he then fled the scene at the same time trying to run over the officer.

Battlefords RCMP found the suspect travelling north of Speers, SK. Officers set up devices to deflate the tires and stop the truck. However, the driver avoided the devices twice and police vehicles were damaged instead.

A third attempt was made to stop the vehicle that resulted in deflating one tire. The driver managed to get away onto Highway 4 heading towards Cochin. Police decided to end the pursuit because of the increased risk to the public.

The man drove to a gas station in Cochin and attempted to steal another vehicle where he was quickly arrested by RCMP. The suspect is in custody and the Ford truck he was driving has been linked to a theft from Lloydminster yesterday afternoon.

Police say the investigation continues. The injured RCMP member was treated at a hospital in North Battleford and has been released.

Correction: The 37-year-old is from North Battleford, not Lloydminster.
