No cannabis shops to open on October 17th on Alberta side of city

No cannabis shops will open on the Alberta side of the city on October 17th. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis announced Thursday that 17 interim licences have been issued for retailers and none are in Lloydminster.

Cannabis is less than two weeks away from being legalized and many pot shops who have applied for cannabis licences in Alberta won’t open until a later date. On the Saskatchewan side of the city, two shops have been selected, Beleave Inc. and Kolab Project Inc., but it is unclear if they will open on the legalization day.

Out of the 17, cannabis stores selected the majority are based in Edmonton. Three will open in Medicine Hat, two in Calgary and two in Fort Saskatchewan on October 17.

The interim licence allows retailers to order and have product shipped to their stores in preparation for legalization. Shops who have received interim licences and fulfill all conditions will be issued a sale licence on October 17 to legally be ready to open their doors.
