Health Foundation Gala raising funds for mental health initiatives

The upcoming 18th annual Health Foundation Gala is raising funds for their mental health initiative Project Sunrise. The project helps build mental health resources for all people in Lloydminster.

Lloydminster Region Health Foundation CEO Malcolm Radke says funds will go towards their goal of a $1 million endowment for the project.

“We have various initiatives that build up the mental health support in Lloydminster ranging in all areas from better actual healthcare support in the ER room with mental health beds. It also goes from that to the preventative side with getting in front of physicians and educating everybody in town.”

This will be the second year the proceeds will be going to Project Sunrise. Last year, the gala raised $122,000 for the initiative.

Radke says it’s their biggest event of the year and as of Monday the gala has sold out.

“The funds raised are nice, but also the marketing component of getting all the doctors together, getting various professionals and business owners from across the community all together in one room and celebrate the good work they’re doing with their donor dollars to enhance and innovate healthcare.”

This year’s gala theme is “Fabulous Fifties” and the evening will feature three 1950’s theme bands. The event is on October 19 at the Stockade Convention Centre.
