Harvest continues despite rain and snow

Producers were able to return to the fields for harvest despite snow and rain. According to Saskatchewan Agriculture, 44 per cent of the crop is in the bin for the Northwestern part of the province. That is up from last week’s 33 per cent, but well behind the five-year average of 83 per cent for this time of year.

Little precipitation was reported last week with the Lloydminster area seeing 15 millimetres. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated at 11 per cent surplus, 69 per cent adequate, 14 per cent short and 6 per cent very short.

Rain and snow have caused most of the crop damage and there are continued reports of geese feeding on swathed crops. Sask. Agriculture says producers are busy drying grain and looking for improved weather to continue combining.

Across the province 78 per cent of the crop is in the bin still behind the five-year average of 84 per cent for this time of year.
