Two new RCMP task forces deployed, one in Battlefords area

The Saskatchewan RCMP say two new Crime Reduction Teams(CRTs) are ready to roll.

The new task forces will focus on two areas in the province, North Battleford and Prince Albert. They were developed over the last year and designed to enhance police initiatives such as high visibility traffic stops, monitoring gang activity and executing warrants. Each city will receive 18 new officer, crime analyst and support positions through the program.

Saskatchewan RCMP decided to give the program the green light after a successful test in early 2018, and will now be full-time. CRTs have already been deployed in tandem to the North Battleford area, working on a crime reduction initiative from September 29th to October 3rd. During that time, they made 27 arrests in relation to over fifty charges. Dozens of traffic stops were also completed.

Saskatchewan Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said in a statement that the program will continue to have the province’s backing as crime reduction efforts move forward.
