New Phone Scam Hits Lloydminster

Lloydminster RCMP are warning the public about a new scam. Police say that in the past several weeks some Lloydminster residents have received phone calls from an unknown number, claiming to be the Canada Revenue Agency. Victims are then told that they owe money for taxes, and that they must pay up immediately or face going to jail. They are asked for passport information and social insurance details, and then told  to wire money with a pre-paid Visa. The RCMP urge the public never to provide personal or banking information over the phone. Instead, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
