“House of Paws” working towards new animal shelter in Lloydminster

The group who put on the SPCA dinner theatre is bringing out a new name for their event and a new goal.

The annual event, which is a play, dinner and other events is coming back for its 18th year. This year’s play will be A Pirate’s Life for Me, which will run from November 28th to December 1st and feature all local actors. Lloydminster and District SPCA executive director Jon Punshon says the newly named “House of Paws” hope to build financial foundations for a new facility.

“This year the dinner theatre group has decided that they want it to go towards a new animal shelter in Lloydminster. This year they’re starting to raise money that hopefully over time can be used towards a new building.”

Punshon says that the local focus and the community’s understanding of the impact of the “House of Paws” event keep people coming back to support every year.

“There’s a lot of charm to the fact that it’s not professional actors. It’s people that love the cause, are concerned about animals in our community and want to make sure that there’s a place for them to go and be looked after.”

Tickets can be purchased again this year at Mel’s Hair Shop, 5201-48 Street.

Correction: The “House of Paws” Dinner Theatre is an entity separate of the Lloydminster and District SPCA. We apologize for the error. – Dan Soul
