Lloydminster Scotiabank raises close to $3,500 for The Wish

Lloydminster Scotiabank plans to raise money for The Goat’s Christmas Wish for years to come after raising $3,490 during its bake sale. The Goat’s Christmas Wish aids families that are facing illness, death and financial troubles during the holiday season.

On October 26th, residents travelled to Scotiabank to buy baked goods, which raised $1,745. Scotiabank then matched the amount.

Customer Experience Lead Jessaca Laboret says they are “ready to rock” for next year after the success of their first bake sale for the cause.

“There was zombie cakes, and Frankenstein cakes, and mummy cakes and bat cupcakes. It was so fun for us as adults that we can’t wait to do it again.”

One cake donated by Butter Me Up Cakes sold for $300, and Laboret says the cake took her breath away. She adds that the number of donations received was not expected.

“We thought it would just be staff baking. The community was so generous, we ended up having a full car load of donations for our bake sale and the branch was just full. It was like a bakery in here.”

Many residents and businesses contributed to the fundraiser including Sobeys and On the Border Bakeshop. Laboret says hearing about what the charity does for families further pushed Scotiabank’s drive to be involved.

“We have customers that have told us stories about The Goat’s Christmas Wish and how it’s impacted maybe not their lives but people they know and we just want to help.”
