Members of the Lloydminster Fire Department will be battling the elements in the sixth annual ALS Rooftop Campout. ALS is known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a neurological disease that affects the muscles in the human body, which can result in difficulty performing basic daily functions.
It’s estimated that 2,500 to 3000 people in Canada live with ALS, and the average lifespan for someone diagnosed is two to five years. Fire Chief Jordan Newton says ALS has affected the Lloydminster Fire Crew personally as well.
“Having lost a friend and fellow firefighter to ALS in 2013, this cause has been a unifying force our members and our community. Each year, the support we receive from residents warms our hearts in the cold conditions.”
Residents can stop by Fire Station No.1 on 5013 49 Ave to drop off donations. The campout will take place from November 23-25.
