Two Turtleford groups help fund helipad

The Turtleford Lions Club and Riverside Ski Hill have paid for the landing pad next to Riverside Health Complex. Treasurer of the Lions Club Red Pearce says the group committed to the project after some problems developed three years ago.

“There was a problem landing in the spring when the ground was soft so we saw the need for some type of landing pad and that’s what got us started.”

Combined the two groups raised close to $32,000 for the helicopter landing pad. The platform will be used by STARS ambulance for critical emergency transport. Pearce says the fundraising took some patience but he is pleased they got the pad complete.

“We had a fish derby last year and raised part of the funds, and we had some funds in reserve for that.”

The Turtleford landing pad has been completed and ready for STARS to access when needed.
