Lloydminster ranks fourteenth in national crime rates

A new report shows that Lloydminster ranks fourteenth in crime rates for small Canadian cities.

On Wednesday, July 22, Statistics Canada released its Crime Severity Index for 2014, ranking crime rates for cities with a population above 10,000 people. Lloydminster’s crime rates ranked 14th in their category, dropping 1 spot from 2013’s rank. Contributing most to the drop in crime was the decrease in violent crime in the city. The latest numbers show violent crime dropped dramatically from 2013’s numbers, from 16th to 20th nationally.

North Battleford, meanwhile, didn’t fare so well. While recording a drop in crime of over 16.4%, the city still took 1st overall, 2nd in violent crime, and 1st in non-violent crime.

In larger municipalities, Saskatoon had the highest crime rate in Canada, followed by Regina, dropping one spot from its number one ranking in 2013.
