Parade of Lights to close part of downtown area

Parking along 50th Ave. will be closed from 6 pm to 8 pm tomorrow due to the Parade of Lights. In a release, The City of Lloydminster says barricades will mark restricted areas which are meant for residents walking to and viewing the parade.

The fourth annual parade kicks off tomorrow at 7 pm. The parade will start at the Exhibition Grounds making its way down Highway 17 and 50th Ave. and then north up 49th Ave, back to the grounds. Following the parade, the Lloydminster Exhibition is asking families to come to the grounds for some free activities including games and pictures with Santa.

Founder Ryan Leblanc says donations will be accepted at the Exhibition Grounds after the parade. Proceeds will go towards new equipment for the Lloydminster Hospital; a mobile C-arm and a Digital Radiography machine that will help with people that have hurt their limbs or bone fractions.

“Basically, something that will allow the doctors to work on the patient when they come in.”

The event has partnered with the Regional Health Foundation in order to purchase the equipment. Money is raised through event sponsors, there will also be a silent auction and a donation box set up at Exhibition Grounds after the parade. The parade has raised over $20,000 last year, Leblanc says they have surpassed that already and the goal is $25,000.

“We will also have two trucks from Boundary Ford set up. One truck will be set up for Lloydminster Sexual Assault services, we will be accepting toys for them and Midwest Family Connections we’re collecting diapers.”

Leblanc adds parking will be available on the Exhibition Grounds so residents won’t have a lot of walking to do in order to see the parade.
