Patience is vital: AMA gives tips on holiday air travel

The Alberta Motor Association is handing out some tips to Lloydminster residents who might be travelling during the busy holiday season. AMA Members Services Manager Roland VanMeurs says patience is a vital part of holiday air travel.

“There is a lot of people trying to get to the same destination or to aircraft, making destinations so depending on what mother nature decides to do with us during that time period, sometimes you can see delays and sometimes it runs smooth but patience is definitely something you have to have.”

Some other tips include: doing as much as possible in advance, such as check-in and seat selection, making sure all liquids, gels and sharp items are packed in checked bags, don’t wrap presents as it will get unwrapped if the airport wants to see what is inside and make sure you have valid documentation on you at all times.

Another important tip is to cross-pack if you’re travelling with other people says VanMeurs.

“Put half your clothes in their luggage and the other half of their clothes in your luggage and that way if the bag does go missing you’re not without anything.”

VanMeurs adds that large gifts should be checked in your suitcase. Small gifts can be packed in your carry on as long as it’s not a liquid or sharp item.
