Lloydminster woman using unique fundraiser to help injured family member

A Lloydminster woman is using a traditional Newfoundland fundraiser to help a sick family member.

Laura Mitchell is making what she calls a Newfie Cold Plate, piled with five different types of food for $12 apiece. Proceeds will go to help her brother-in-law Jimmy Mitchell, who was paralyzed in a quadding accident.

“It’s turkey, lettuce and tomato, bread buns, it’s dressing, three different kinds of salad – a potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, cranberry sauce,” Mitchell said. “They’re really nice plates, all homemade salads. It’s very good.”

Mitchell says she will also be selling 50/50 tickets for $10, with half the money going to Jimmy’s rehab treatments.

Anyone interested in donating or buying a plate should contact Laura Mitchell on Facebook, or call (306) 830-2999. The plates can be picked up at 3316 43A Avenue.

The deadline for orders is Saturday, August 1, and plates will be available Sunday, August 2.
