New traffic bylaw in effect in 2019

The new year has brought various bylaw changes, including playground zone times and helmet regulations for those under 18.

Bylaw No. 09-2018 The Traffic Bylaw came into effect January 1. The bylaw implements several measures meant to increase driver and pedestrian safety.

School zone hours have been updated to go from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Playground zones have also been updated to effect from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. U-turns are also forbidden in school zones and playground zones.

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved helmets are now required for anyone under 18 riding a bike, skateboard, scooter or similar transport method.

Unhitched trailers and hitched trailers are permitted on the street for up to 48 hours. Unhitched trailers must be secured, including properly blocked tires.

Permits are required for work trailers and can be found at www.lloydminster.ca/permits There are also speed limit adjustments to Highway 17 North and Highway 16 East.

Highway 16 is changed to 60 km/h starting 100 metres east of 45 avenue going east. Highway 17 has changed to 70 km/h going north out of the city.

Council approved the bylaw during the regular Council meeting on September 24, 2018. Administration held a Your Voice night on April 19 and a public hearing April 30, to gather resident feedback and priorities regarding traffic safety.
