The Lloydminster & District Co-op has re-opened the pharmacy in the Co-op Marketplace. Construction began at the beginning of September and has completed the renovated pharmacy space as the final upgrade to the building. The new pharmacy space also comes with with a number of new features.
Some of the upgrades include a redesigned workspace, the addition of two private patient counselling
rooms and modernized dispensing equipment. Leanne Hawes, Vice President of Operations for the Lloydminster & District Co-op is excited for the new space.
“It’s a new space, a professional space, for our team to offer the high-quality services and products our co-op members have grown accustomed to receiving,” says Hawes.
The pharmacy also launched their new Travel Health Clinics, a speciality that allows pharmacists to give an in-depth analysis of a traveller’s needs. To their knowledge, two pharmacists at the Co-op Pharmacy are the only ones in Lloydminster possessing their Certificate in Travel Health. Michelle Teasdale, Pharmacy Manager at the Co-op Pharmacy, remarks that it’s an important service for those looking to travel.
“Pharmacists can provide somewhat of the service, but I feel like the certification really gave us specialized training. We’re able to do a proper assessment on the patient and provide recommendations that are very specific to the patient based on where they’re going, what they’re doing and their health situation,” says Teasdale.
The pharmacist looks at things like history of vaccinations and what vaccination updates travellers might need. A certified pharmacist can also give advice on what kind of medications someone can bring abroad, both on a plane and into another country.
“There’s definitely some restrictions on certain medications in certain countries. So we’re able to gather all of that information and let the patient know what they can take on the plane and into another country. Those are things that are part of that service, so it’s quite in-depth.”
The types of consultations come with certain fees, but Teasdale adds they include injection administration fees for the first consult. Costs also depend on things like where you’re going and how many people are going. Teasdale adds lots of training backs the services she can provide.
