Property stolen from Vermilion recovered, four facing charges

Police have recovered several stolen items from Vermilion, including a truck, a trailer, and two snowmobiles, after arresting three adults and one youth. On January 15, St. Paul RCMP and the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) intercepted a vehicle that was returning to Saddle Lake. Three individuals were arrested without incident and the fourth individual was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Justin Jackson (22), Hank Quinney (40), and Andy Brertton (47) of Saddle Lake were charged with the four counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. A 14-year-old male from Saddle Lake, who cannot be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also facing four charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Jackson is also facing charges of failing to comply with probation and obstructing a peace officer. Quinney is also facing an additional charge of obstructing a peace officer. Brertton was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Bonnyville, in which he faces charges for breaking and entering, possession of property obtained by crime, theft and mischief.

All three accused were released by a justice following a judicial hearing and are scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on January 31. Brertton is also scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on February 5, in relation to his outstanding warrant. The youth is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on January 21.
