UPDATE: Snow removal operations stopping due to extreme cold

UPDATE: The city has ceased all snow removal operations due to extreme cold, increased chance for equipment damage and improper clearing ability. Until temperatures rise, crews will sand major roads and intersections. Motorists are advised to use caution and stay vigilant while driving.

The City of Lloydminster has announced the stop of residential snow removal due to extremely cold weather. Lloydminster is one of many municipalities under an extreme cold warning with windchill expected to reach -40 C tonight.

Residential snow clearing was underway in some residential areas of the city last week due to snow and ice packed roads. A heavy snowfall event at the start of February prompted crews to stop clearing residential roads and focus on Priority 1 and 2 routes.

The city hopes to continue clearing residential roads later this week depending on the weather conditions. In the interim, crews will continue to focus on clearing snow from non-residential Priority 1 and 2 routes.
