Bobcats sign local stand out Jayven Leslie

The Lloydminster Bobcats have signed local stand out Jayven Leslie to a Letter of Intent for the 2019-2020 season. Having played through the Lloydminster Minor Hockey Association, the Bobcats says Leslie is “a key piece to the puzzle moving forward.”

According to the team, the 15-year-old has put up 5 goals and 14 points in 28 games with the Lloydminster Bandit Midget AAA team this season. Last year he registered 15 goals and equal assists on the season with the Lloydminster Heat Bantam AAA team. Head coach and GM of the Bobcats, Nigel Dube, says he’s seen Leslie’s talent first hand.

“I was able to coach Jayven last spring in the Alberta Cup and his character and dedication absolutely jumped off the charts at that time. His maturity at age 15 along with his thought processes and decision making meet our core values before we even get into his on-ice performance,” says Dube.

In a statement, the Bobcats says Leslie brings the ability on the ice to create space for those around him. He has also suited up with the Bobcats in five affiliation games collecting an assist. Dube adds that Leslie has a high aptitude for the game and he’s excited to have him on the team.

“Jayven has a very high hockey IQ, the ability to see the ice and he is continuing his development through this season. At 15 years old we are thrilled to be keeping Jayven local. With the management change in November came a commitment to keep our own players in the community, a win-win situation.”

The Bobcats will head south for a three-game road swing this weekend in Brooks, Calgary and Olds before returning to the Centennial Civic Centre on February 13.
