Two hockey players represent Lloydminster at Canada Winter Games

Local athletes will be seeking gold at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Two Lloydminster competitors are hitting the ice in Red Deer for the games, which kicked off Friday night. Tyson Laventure will be representing the Border City for men’s hockey, while Alex Spence will be suiting up for women’s hockey.

3,600 athletes and support staff from across Canada are being brought together for the event. 19 sporting events will be displayed in the largest multi-sport and cultural event to be hosted in Alberta since the 1988 Olympics in Calgary.

“Our athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers have been training hard for this moment, and we are so proud of their efforts.” Premier Rachel Notley says Alberta is thrilled to again host the Canada Winter Games for the first time in 24 years.

Lloydminster had a piece of the Winter Canada Games pie as it was one of the stops in the first ever MNP Canada Games Torch Relay in January.
