Trees intruding powerlines around Lloydminster will be removed by ATCO Electric in the coming weeks. The City of Lloydminster says the interference is creating safety hazards and potential for electricity disruptions.
In certain cases, ATCO will trim trees down, but the trees selected can no longer be trimmed to prevent any risks. The electric company will be reimbursing The City funds for every tree removed, which will go towards planting new ones. The locations for replanting will be chosen later this year.
The tree cutting is supposed to start on February 26, 2019, and end in the spring. Residents with trees adjacent to their homes will receive a letter from ATCO Electric. Property owners impacted by the tree-removal work can contact an ATCO Electric at 1-800-668-2248.
