‘Be Your Own Beautiful’ to boost teen confidence through portraits

A local photographer wants to help self-conscious youth see just how beautiful they can be. “Be Your Own Beautiful” is a project at Jen Isackson Photography that will give young people a self-esteem boost through their very own portrait.

The $225 glam session is for junior high and high school students. Hair-do’s will be done by K.A.T. Salon and Spa and makeup by makeup artist Candice Willets to celebrate the uniqueness of each teenager.  Owner and operator of the photography company, Jen Isackson, says there’s lots of pressure being a teenager and wants to make sure they celebrate who they are.

“Being a teenager is really youth. They’re figuring out who they are, and are surrounded by constant pressure to be someone else. But everyone’s unique, and I want them to see that they are special as themselves,” says Isackson.

Isackson hopes that teens seeing themselves in a different light will help them with confidence. With fifteen applications for the sessions already, Isackson says there’s already interest from the community. She also wanted to do this for teenagers because there often isn’t an opportunity for portraits outside of graduation photos.

“That’s kind of their first chance outside of family sessions, and not many local photographers have offered it for teens. It’s just something different that hasn’t been available to them, and now they can have this opportunity.”

The one-day event is Saturday, March 16 at the Jen Isackson Photography Home Studio in Lloydminster. With limited spaces available, bookings can be made on jenisackson.com/beyourownbeautiful. If successful, Isackson says there may be a future event like this.
