Lloydminster switching to monthly utility bills

Those that buy utilities from the city of Lloydminster will begin receiving monthly invoices. Previously, city customers received a utility invoice once every two months. With the recent implementation of new water meter-reading technology, the city is now able to collect monthly meter readings.

Last year, Lloydminster oversaw the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) on
residential and commercial meters throughout the city. AMI technology allows for remote reading, the collection of real-time water usage data and the ability for advanced leak detection. It also gives officials the ability to detect intermittent or continuous water consumption.

The city says this change comes with a number of benefits. The change means consistent payment dates and will support better tracking and monitoring of water use the change will also result in reduced administration costs for the city. In a statement, the city says it has identified hundreds of accounts with previously undetected water leakage and worked with those residents and business owners to identify and resolve leaks.

Meters for homes and businesses will be read on the last business day of the month. Those who get e-bills will be emailed a utility notice within three business days of the meter-reading date.
