Vegreville RCMP warn public about paving crew scam

Vegreville RCMP is warning the public about paving crews scamming locals.

The police say that crews have been contacting residents, claiming they work for a contracting company with projects in the area that have an excess in paving materials. The crews offer customers discounted prices on the materials, then once work has started demand a much higher price than the initial quote.

Customers report the crews seek cash only for the job, refuse to provide written quotes or invoices, and threaten to sue customers to ensure work is paid for. The RCMP also say there have been reports of similar scams from all across Alberta.

The RCMP recommend the public research the company they plan to hire, get written quotes, and ask for contact information for both the company and the contractors.

If anyone sees any suspicious activity in their area, they are asked to report it to their local RCMP detachment.
