North Battleford announces layoffs coming to City Hall

The City of North Battleford has announced staff reductions in order to attain long-term financial stability.

“A very difficult decision was made to reduce staffing levels throughout the city including permanent staffing layoffs,” says Mayor Ryan Bater in a press release on Monday.

A timeline for layoffs or the number of positions that would be affected has not been announced. The City looks to “re-establish a strong financial foundation”, which resulted in changes in the executive management team with changes occurring in 2018. The City adds the rebuild will be accomplished through efficiencies and working together.

The City says council and administration have been working on a lengthy and in-depth review of City operations.

“The review also identified areas within City operations where processes such as purchasing procedures could be improved with better checks and balances. These problems have been identified and a plan is in place to improve – over time these improvements will be evident.”
