ASIRT is investigating after a Lloydminster RCMP member was involved in a shooting. Around 3:20 p.m. on Monday, April 29, Lloydminster RCMP members tried to arrest a suspect in a stolen vehicle. The RCMP says the suspect ran on foot, and a responding officer gave chase. The officer fired their gun resulting in the suspect receiving non-life threatening injuries. They were airlifted to hospital, and no officers were injured as a result.
The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding police conduct. The RCMP remains the lead investigating agency on the events leading up to the serious incident, while ASIRT may review police actions. The RCMP will not give further comment.
