ASIRT continues investigating officer-involved shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is still investigating the circumstances around an officer-involved shooting. On April 29, around 3:20 p.m., a man was seen driving a vehicle that had been stolen earlier that day.

The man stopped the vehicle in an industrial area, exited and ran, chased on foot by two RCMP officers. An officer fired his gun at the 33-year-old who sustained a single gunshot wound. Officers administered emergency care until EMS personnel arrived. The man was airlifted to hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in stable condition. A loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered on scene.

As ASIRT’s investigation is underway, no further information will be released at this time. ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
