Residents in North Battleford who’re beginning their spring cleaning can get rid of their Hazardous waste this Saturday. The City’s Household Hazardous Waste Day is encouraging community members to drop off materials such as cleaners, adhesives and poisons to the Public Works Shop from 9 am to 4 pm.
The City of North Battleford made a statement encouraging residents to get rid of the waste that could be a risk to their health, and possibly have a negative impact on the environment. The city says these potential outcomes happen through improper disposal such as pouring waste down the drain, pouring on the ground, into sewers or placing it in the trash.
People are advised to not mix products when bringing them to the disposal site and to keep the materials in its original container. If you do not have the original container then make sure to label the material. No commercial loads will be accepted.
Accepted Materials:
- Adhesives – contact cement, caulking, sealer, carpet and linoleum adhesives, glue
- Aerosols – hair spray, insect repellent, lubricant spray, furniture cleaner
- Automotive – carburetor cleaners, oil fuel
- Cleaners – oven cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, glass cleaner, spot remover, disinfectants, car wax
- Corrosives – drain cleaner, engine degreaser, ammonia, battery acid, sulfuric acid
- Fuels – gasoline, diesel, kerosene, lamp oil, oil/gas mixture
- Mercury – mercury, thermometers
- Oxidizers – chlorine, bleach, pool chemicals, fertilizers, hydrogen peroxide, septic tank chemicals
- Poisons – lawn herbicides, garden chemicals, rat poison, gopher killer, insecticides
- Solvents – paint thinner, acetone, varsol, alcohol, benzene, xylene, naphtha
