Former Vermillion Lacrosse team moves to Lloydminster

A former Vermillion lacrosse team hopes to get more involved with the community after moving to Lloydminster. The Border Rage is in the middle of their inaugural season in Lloydminster after spending close to 8 years in Vermillion.

Head Coach Devin Skipton says the decision was made at the end of the 2018 season after an agreement with the Vermillion Stadium ended. The Border Rage has now found a new home at the Civic Centre.

“I think the boys are pretty excited, new home, new face, new fans, a new opportunity. We want to get out into the community as well. Anyone who is looking for volunteers or looking for bartenders for a charity gig, let us know.”

Along with brand new jerseys and a sponsorship with the Gold Horse Casino, Skipton says Lloydminster is a good home base to begin scouting for the future.  With a solid foundation already built, he says the team looks to give kids playing on local teams, such as the Lloydminster Xtreme, a platform to continue with the sport they love.

“Continuation of sports, when there is no pro level for us around just to keep these guys involved is huge for the minors. These are the guys that are the dads, these guys are coaching the younger kids and giving these kids something to look forward to if they don’t make it that one step higher.”

Border Rage has players ranging from ages 22 to 52. Skipton says for anyone looking to try their hand at the sport, the team will have tryouts to see if you fit on the squad. For fans who’re new to lacrosse or not familiar at all,  Skipton describes it as “the fastest game on two feet.”

“It is hard-hitting, there is a lot of pushy, shovy, guys are slashing, guys are crosschecking, the odd occasional fight will happen but you will see some of the most skilled lacrosse players in our league.”

The Rage has two home games left in the season on July 6 at 7 PM and July 7 at 12:30 PM. Admission is free for all home games.

Anyone looking to join the team or looking for any volunteers for local events you can reach the team on Facebook at Border Rage Lacrosse Club.
