Anyone who’s ordered a War Amps Canada key tag can expect it’s arrival soon. The War Amps will be sending key tags across Alberta over the next few weeks. The free services offered by War Amps Canada has been helping to track lost keys across the country for more than 70 years now.
According to War Amps Canada, 1.5 million keys have been returned to their rightful owners. Key tags for 2019 will be delivered in the coming weeks, active to the user’s name and ready to be attached to a key chain. Each tag features a toll-free number for the finder to call, and they can be placed in any Canadian mailbox to be delivered by courier.
The service is free, however, donations made by its users count for all of War Amps Canada’s fundraising. The funds help War Amps Canada support thousands of amputees across Canada by helping them afford artificial limbs. James Jordan, public awareness officer with War Amps Canada, is one of those supported by the child amputee (CHAMP) program as he was born without his left arm below his elbow.
“I can’t really put into words how much it helped me in my life growing up just having the support of the War Amps behind me,” said Jordan. “It not only provided me financial assistance first and foremost for me to have the artificial limb that I needed for everyday life, to keep up with my friends, be active and do the things I love to do. But also emotionally, through a lot of our programs and seminars across the country.”
The service is free to use but donations are accepted. The organization doesn’t fundraise any other way, solicit by phone or door-to-door, and touts less than 10 per cent of its funds spent on administration. People can order key tags or get involved online at www.waramps.ca, or by calling 1-800-250-3030.
