Lloydminster man receives drug charges after ALERT investigation

A Lloydminster man is one of several arrests linked to a drug trafficking network that spanned Alberta and B.C according to Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams. ALERT’s nine-month investigation called Project Embrace targetted the supply, distribution and street-level sales of drugs from B.C.

26-year-old Rylan Rautiainen from Lloydminster is one of 14 men that have received several charges including conspiracy to traffic drugs. A number of homes were searched in Edmonton and Vancouver. Police are saying they were able to seize 6.5 kilograms of cocaine, 2 kilograms of methamphetamine as well as over $300,000 in cash.

Police say the drugs were brought to Edmonton and then the sales co-ordinated with dealers in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lloydminster, St. Paul and other areas. A number of law enforcement departments contributed to the project including the Lloydminster RCMP and Kitscoty RCMP.

Project Embrace began in October 2018 after Bonnyville RCMP gathered information on drug trafficking taking place in the community. In conjunction with the initiative, Bonnyville RCMP has arrested and charged eight individuals in separate investigations.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and aims to reduce serious and organized crime.
