Lloyd Exh calling 2019 Colonial Days Fair a success

Another year wraps-up for the Colonial Days Fair. The annual event featuring a number of fun activities draws thousands from the area into the Border City. Jackie Tomayer of the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition says she’s pleased that throughout the four-day event, weather conditions held up.

“We are (going to) call this a very good successful year. The weather was good (for) all four days. We haven’t got the final numbers, but we’re going to say we’re up about ten per cent in attendance, which is huge,” says Tomayer.

Wednesday, July 10 saw very chilly weather conditions that stoked fears of rain. Tomayer confirms that rain was not a problem throughout the fair despite stormy clouds surrounding the Lloydminster area. Feedback from vendors, including outside food vendors, church booths and tradeshow vendors all report a successful year at the fair.

Attractions like the Extreme Dogs show “was packed every sing day.” The Raptors Show displaying bird of prey was also reported to be very popular throughout the fair. Tomayer says she’s pleased to report that the agricultural shows also saw a high attendance rate. The presence of the military was also a nice attraction for fair-goers.

“We were excited that the military was here. We don’t always get them every year, so when they do come, we’re super happy about that.

Numbers have not been counted for this year’s Red Friday, where a dollar was donated in support of local veterans and military personnel for every person wearing red. This year also saw sponsorship from Canadian Tire on Family Day, ensuring free admission for three hours along with a reduced ride all day armband price. Tomayer says that all these factors helped make this year’s Colonial Days Fair one for the books.

“Everything just really worked out well this year,” says Tomayer.

There are no immediate plans for the next Colonial Days Fair. The planning for next year’s fair begins in September with a wrap-up meeting among board members and LAEA staff.
