Lloydminster history celebrated during eighth annual Heritage Day

The history of Lloydminster is being celebrated as the City is partnering with the Barr Colony Heritage Society once again for the eighth annual Heritage Day.

Manager for Programming and Events Cindy Rekimowich says around 3,000 people come to the event every year to learn about the pioneers who were the first to live in the Border City.

“We just want to celebrate our heritage and remember how we got to where we are today and appreciate what we got today based on where people have come in the last hundred years.”

The activity-filled event will kick off with a free pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. Rekimowich says the free event will be hosted at the Cultural and Science Centre which ties in great to Heritage Days due to the history displayed at the facility.

“We’ve got live music at the main stage, a petting zoo, we’ve got tours going on, old fashioned games and demonstrations from the Heritage Society, so we’re grateful for them. There are horse-drawn wagon rides, there is really something for everybody.”

Heritage Day is on August 5 at the LCSC and Weaver Park starting at 10 a.m. running until 3 p.m.
