RCMP arrest man on roof after vehicle chase

One man is facing charges after attempting to flee from Saskatchewan RCMP. The RCMP Roving Traffic Unit tried to stop a speeding vehicle on Highway 16, near Maidstone on August 30.

Police say the vehicle drove into oncoming traffic and mounties stopped the pursuit out of public safety concerns. The vehicle was later located by police near Cut Knife, SK, and officers set up two spike belts to stop the vehicle.

The man ran from the vehicle after running over the belts and was found by Lloydminster Police Dog Services on the roof of a house.

Nakota Pooyak, 26, from Sweetgrass First Nation was arrested without further incident. He is facing multiple charges including:

  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Resisting arrest
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Pooyak made his first appearance in court on September 3 in St. Walburg Provincial Court.
