Coming Out Stories to support LGBTQ+ in Lloydminster

Lakelands’ Coming Out Stories will have its third and final event.

On Friday, October 4, speakers will be sharing their experiences. The group hopes that over 100 people will attend the evening.

The upcoming event will support and show acceptance to everyone. People can attend to learn new things and show support for the speakers.

First time attendees can expect a judgment free zone and are encouraged to ask questions.

William Yap, President of Lakeland College LGBTQ+ Support Group, says that the idea of Coming Out Stories was never expected to have three events.

“People can expect it to be enlightening because people often ask, when is the right time to ask such a personal question. The Coming Out Story evening is a safe space, where all will feel supported and accepted. Now is the answer really, now is the right time to ask.”

This is going to be the final event for Coming Out Stories. Yap says that this chapter will focus on multimedia and people can revisit past sessions that were recorded. They don’t want the Coming Out Stories to overlap in the future.

“Change does not happen without the help of the majority and we need the straight allies on our side in order to affect change, and that’s why the Coming Out Stories are so important,” says Yap.

Food and beverages will be available to all attendants. The Coming Out Stories will start at 7 p.m. and go until 10 p.m. at the Lakeland College Lloydminster Campus.
