Lloydminster RCMP offering anti-theft license plate screws

License plates in the Boarder City will become difficult to swap out after this Saturday.

Lloydminster RCMP Detachment and Lloydminster Nissan has teamed up to install anti-theft license plate screws. Residents in the city are invited to the Lloyd Mall Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to get anti-theft license plate screws installed.

Constable Michael Hagel says anyone will be able to get these screws installed and everyone is invited.

“We find a lot of times in Lloydminster vehicles are being stolen, license plates are being swapped out; this just causes the individual who’ve taken these cars, and give them a second chance. They can’t change that license plate for a new one.”

This will be the second time Lloydminster will be offering these anti-theft screws. In January, Officers first installed anti-theft screws to secure license plates. It was a huge success, they decided to bring it back.

“So it’s a specific locking bolt that can only be taken off at the registry office or the car dealerships in town, and it will prevent the license plate being removed from your car,” says Hagel.

RCMP officers and Citizens on Patrol will be handing out warm coffee. The event will happen despite the weather on Saturday, October 5, from  9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
