The Lloydminster Men’s Shelter is looking for volunteers to help them with their city housing assessment.
The organization needs about six people to help hand out questionnaires for their assessment.
The assessment is done every two years and looks at whether the homeless or marginalized population in Lloydminster has increased or decreased and if there are more or less of homeless women or youth in the area.
Executive Director Valerie Lazicki says it will be a non-identifying questionnaire and they won’t be taking any sort of personal information.
“It’s merely to determine what their needs are and how their needs are not being met in our community,” says Lazicki. “For example, perhaps we are seeing more youth homeless who are couch surfing. That’s an identifiable need that we would want to address.”
The shelter is also looking for volunteers to help them at the drop-in centre which they are expecting to open at the end of October.
“It’s someplace where people can spend the day when they have nowhere else to be especially during the winter when its a life or death situation in this climate.”
The drop-in centre will be upstairs at the St. John’s Anglican Church and a social worker will be there at all times to help with supportive services.Â
