Trace amounts of snow expected to fall

Alberta is expected to see a dramatic drop in temperature.

A cold front is currently making its way through the province. Meteorologist for Environmental Canada, Brian Proctor, gave an example of how quickly the front is moving. On Monday, October 7 the temperature in Peace River dropped ten degrees over an hour and a half.

Proctors believes that Lloydminster will not see more than 2 cm of snow.

“It’s a very strong cold front. It’s going to come sweeping down through the province and winds are going to shift around to the northwest and behind that cold front and we will see some flurry activities through much of the province,” says Proctor.

He is expecting winds to gust at 50-60 km per hour, during the late afternoon and early evening. The meteorologist is expecting the daytime high to not be as warm as first anticipated, it will be around 14 or 15°C.

“This time of year we really should expect these kind of fluctuations between warm and cold in the month of October. What we are seeing at this time of the year, we have a tendency to be right on the interface between the two seasons, and so we get a little bit of warm weather and especially cold weather and it sort of cycles back and forth. Seeing a heavy snowfall event in Alberta is pretty typical for October.”

Rain is expected to fall first, then it will change to snow. The Foothills is expecting to get to biggest snowfall.
