Lloydminster’s business community were celebrated for their contributions to the community.

Small business week has wrapped up in the Border City with the annual Business Excellence Awards on October 24. The Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce held the awards at the Gold Horse Casino.

Each year the Chamber President chooses the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and this year it went to Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and CEO of Lakeland College.

“When I first heard about it, I was overwhelmed and humbled for being picked for such a special award.”

She says looking at the room full of people she believes there’s plenty of opportunities for businesses in Lloydminster and hopes to lead the younger generations to find those opportunities.

“Lloydminster has some amazing opportunities and we’re in a situation right now with some political unrest and what’s happening with our jobs but as a community, because we’re strong together we’ll make it.”

Chamber of Commerce president Corinne Kelly-Hyde says she chose Dr. Wainwright-Stewart for her long-standing work with Lakeland College and pursuing her own academic career.

“Her work building up both campuses and all the work she did in expanding programming at our local community college is certainly something to be commended.”
