On AiriPhone 5’s becoming paper weights without new update SHARE ON: Michael Pruski, staff Tuesday, Oct. 29th, 2019 A mobile phone. (Pixabay)Hey sooo…if you’re still using an iPhone 5 (which is the best one they’ve come out with), you’re going to need to update it…and FAST!According to the Independent if you’re NOT running iOS 10.3.4 by Sunday, your phone will CEASE to be as useful as it is normally. The reason this update is so dire for older phone users is that there’s a software thingy that’ll make applications that run on the correct date/time stop working. These include but are not limited to web-browsing (how will find the hours for your local fast food joint), emails (wouldn’t actually mind missing a few of these) and the app store (no more angry birds?).In a nutshell, your phone’s GSP will be unreliable and that will put the brakes on all those things that require the date and time to function.Don’t worry though, I’m here to walk you through updating your iPhone 5 so that you don’t lose its functionality. (Or you could just upgrade…JK I’m not bullying you into that…yet). Head to the “Settings” section of the phone, if like me you’ve never looked for it, it looks like a gear. Next click on, “General Settings“, followed by, “Software Update“. Wham-bam-done! As long as you follow that simple procedure before Sunday your enduring iPhone 5 should be all set.***MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR PHONE BEFORE DOING ANY UPDATES OR YOU COULD LOSE ALL YOUR PET SELFIES***If you’re as bad with technology as I am, maybe have someone else help you with your phone…I’d hate to hear that you’ve got a brick in your pocket because you missed this update!let’s just go back to carrier pigeons…-PruskiPs. I tried to verify this Independent story by visiting Apple’s official social media accounts/websites and couldn’t find any word on it so there’s that…their Twitter account didn’t even have a single tweet so that’s rad.
