UPDATE: Poppy donation box thief caught in Sherwood Park

UPDATE: Police have arrested the man involved in a poppy donation box theft in the early hours of November 4.

Strathcona County RCMP responded to a theft complaint at a business on Emerald Drive in Sherwood Park. Two patrons saw a man steal a poppy donation box and leave.

The two followed the suspect outside and along with an off duty police officer held the man until police arrived.

Korey McPhee was arrested for theft along with outstanding warrants from previous charges including possession of stolen property, theft under $500 and fail to attend.

Police have determined McPhee was responsible for the poppy donation box theft in Lloydminster.

McPhee was remanded into custody and appeared in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on November 6.

Lloydminster RCMP is asking for the public’s help in finding a man responsible for stealing a poppy box. RCMP were called to a business in the 3900 block of 50 Avenue in the early morning of November 4. 

The man was seen on camera grabbing the poppy donation box and fleeing while being chased by staff.

The suspect is described as wearing a black “VANS” hat, white sunglasses around his neck and black and white track pants.

“This is a huge fundraiser for those men and women who put their lives on the line for our safety,” says Constable Grant Kirzinger. “It is unbelievable that someone would steal the poppy box.”
