Barons and Raiders one win away from Alberta Bowl return

Both Lloydminster High school football teams each have one game left before the Alberta Bowl. The Lloydminster Comprehensive Barons and the Holy Rosary Raiders both won their semi-final matchups last weekend.

The fourth-ranked Lloydminster Comprehensive Barons beat the seventh-ranked Paul Kane Blues 61-14 in the tier II Regional Semi-finals on November 9th. They will face the Austin O’Brien Crusaders, ranked third in the north division, this Saturday in the Regional Finals. The Barons are eyeing the chance to defend their championship at this year’s Alberta Bowl with a win this weekend.

For the fifth time in six years, the Holy Rosary Raiders, ranked fourth in the tier III north division, beat the second-ranked Sylvan Lake Lakers in the semi-final game 24-5. With a win on Saturday, the Raiders will make their fifth straight appearance in the Provincial Finals.

The Raiders will host the Sturgeon Spirits this Saturday at 12 p.m. at Holy Rosary. The Barons will take on the Crusaders at 1 p.m. at Armstrong Field.
