The holiday season is a time of giving for the community of Lloydminster and surrounding areas. Many organizations will be hosting events and taking in donations which will find its way to the community and those in need.
Lloydminster
The Festival of Trees will be kicking off the festivities with a Cookies & Carols preview event at Lakeland College Lloydminster Campus on November 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. There people will be able to get a sneak peek at this year’s line of trees and enjoy some cookies and music. The Richard Larsen Barr Colony Foundation will also be taking donations at the event.
The Lights and Sounds of Christmas House will entertain residents with a new light show and photo opportunities. The House is located at 5704 30 St. and the light show will be held on November 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. Donations from the event go towards Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster.
The Richard Larsen Barr Colony Foundation will then be hosting their annual Festival of Trees Gala on November 28 from 6 to 11 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go towards the foundation to promote arts, history and culture in the Border City.
The House of Paws will be holding their 19th annual Dinner Theatre event at the Kitscoty Community Hall from November 28 to 30. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Lloydminster SPCA. Tickets can be purchased at Mel’s Hair Shop on 5201 48 Street.
The Salvation Army will begin taking donations for its annual Kettle Campaign on November 29. The kettles will be in six locations including Lloyd Mall, Lloydminster & District Co-op, Safeway, Real Canadian Superstore, Sobeys and Walmart. The campaign wraps up on December 24.
The Lloydminster & District Co-op will be finishing their Spread a Little Love event on November 29. Trees with donation suggestions are in place at Co-op businesses around the city and will be given to seniors in the community on Christmas Day.
The Polar Splash will be held on December 7 and dares locals to take a dip to raise money for Border City Connects. The splash will take place at the parking lot on 50 Avenue and 49 Street.
The Rotaract Club is looking for gently used winter wear for children and youth for the Olive Tree’s Coats for Kids program. Donation bins can be found at several locations across the city including Home Hardware, Agland and Servus Credit Union.Â
The Salvation Army and Olive Tree are taking in food and toy donations for their Christmas Hampers which will be given out between December 17 to 19.
Battlefords
The Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre and the Boys and Girls Club have partnered to collect winter clothing as part of their Share the Warmth recycling program. Donations can be given to the Centre at 1171 101 Street.
The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation will be hosting their annual Festival of Trees from November 29 to December 5 at the Western Development Museum. The event raises money to purchase health equipment for the hospital.
WPD Ambulance is holding Cram an Ambulance and is taking in toys for children. Donation bins will be in place at several businesses in the Battlefords starting November 29.
