A man has been charged after threatening to shoot up a Kitscoty school.
On November 27, Kitscoty RCMP received a complaint of a man threatening to shoot up a school just after 1 p.m. No specific school was named in the threat but RCMP took immediate action to find the man and his location. Police arrested the suspect, without incident, in the Rivercourse area at 2:10 p.m. The RCMP seized several firearms and charged 51-year-old George Wade Bodnar with two counts of uttering threats.
“We take threats involving a school very seriously,” says Sergeant Corey Buckingham of the Kitscoty RCMP. “It is a serious offence and the RCMP will respond accordingly. Safety of our students, teachers and our community is our number one priority and we’re pleased with the partnership with E.H. Walter School and the minimal disruption to the students and staff.”
Bodnar has been released and will make a court appearance at Lloydminster Provincial Court on January 14, 2020.
