Mount Joy opening weekend delayed

Mount Joy Snow Resort’s 2020 isn’t starting as it hoped as its opening weekend is being pushed back a week. Mount Joy President Ray Tatro says recent weather conditions have made snowmaking difficult over the past week.

“The humidity in the air, once it gets above 90 per cent it won’t form flakes, it turns to water because the air could only handle so much humidity. We need to a combination of around minus eight degrees and around 80 per cent for humidity.”

Tatro says due to mother nature the resort has pushed the opening weekend to January 11th. The resort says snowmaking won’t be until Sunday at the earliest.

“There’s just not enough snow at the bottom of the hill because the temperatures over the past week have been pretty mild. The wind’s a killer too.”

The ski hill is entering its 54th season.
