Friendship Centre is in need of winter clothing donations

With the current cold snap hitting Lloydminster, the Friendship Centre is looking for winter clothing donations.
Executive Director Bonnie Start says a lot of people in need come into the centre looking for winter clothing but unfortunately, the centre has run out.

“If we don’t have the stuff and people need it, it’s hard. A lot of people are living on the streets. A lot of people that come here don’t have transportation, so they have to walk.”

Start says around 40 people come in per day to receive food donations. A lot of them without proper winter clothing.

“There are many people walking here to grab bread, fresh fruit and vegetables they need. You can see they’re coming in without mitts or toques or what they do have isn’t meant for the temperatures we’re getting right now.”

For those who come in daily for donations, the centre wants easy access to supplies they need instead of them walking around the city in harsh conditions.

“A lot of people don’t have the money to buy what they need, so they make do. Any of the donations that the community brings in goes out as fast as it comes in.”

Anyone looking to donate winter clothing such as mittens and toques can bring them to the Lloydminster Friendship Centre at 4602 49 Ave.
