The Lloydminster SPCA found homes for 607 animals in 2019, Community Outreach Manager Becca Lawrence says the total is around average for the organization.
“In the last few years, we’ve seen our adoption numbers go a little bit lower. I believe it was in 2017 we started with our Manage the Mission so that we ourselves weren’t overrun with animals and overrun with sickness and unable to adopt those animals out right away because they’re sick. I believe that’s why our [adoption] numbers have gone down about 20 animals.”
The shelter saw 881 animals come through the doors in 2019 with some of them returning to owners along with adoptions. A total of 90 dogs, 31 puppies, 212 cats, 249 kittens and 25 reptiles and small animals found homes through the Lloydminster SPCA. Last year also saw partnerships, which include Petsmart, account for 157 offsite adoptions.
Lawrence thanks the community for the continued support saying without it the SPCA wouldn’t have it’s doors open.
“With our Jail and Bail and our dinner theatre, we’re getting people from far and wide even donating to us. it’s nice to see we have such a huge support base and our community is choosing to get an animal from us.”
Happy with the SPCA’s 2019, Lawrence says the organization is looking to continue progressing in 2020 and years to come. The SPCA is looking into ways to not only increase adoptions but bring more funding into the shelter moving forward.
One of the changes coming in 2020 starts on September 1st as the SPCA will begin closing on Sundays to the public.
